Remedies for Dark Underarms

Clean and fair underarms are what you need when you decide to go for a swim or wear that sleeveless top. The discoloration of underarms is faced by multiple women. Before listing out some tips to tackle this problem, we look at what are the causes of these dark underarms.

Causes of Dark Underarms:

Dark underarms are due to the accumulation of dead cells in that specific area. This is due to not exposing the skin of that specific area. There are many deodorants which can also cause this discoloration.

*Another reason for having dark underarms is a medical condition known as Acanthosis Nigricans. This occurs normally in those who are over-weight or those suffering from disorders of the glands.

*Shaving is another factor which leads to the dark underarms as the hair is cut right above the skin and tends to make that specific area look dark.

Few Remedies for Dark Underarms:

  1. Tomato Juice:

Using raw tomato works well for lightening the skin of the underarm. This also helps in reducing sweating, which can be one of the causes of dark underarms. Due to the bleaching properties present in tomato, this is effective in managing discoloration.

Rub a slice of raw tomato in the underarm area on a daily basis. You can try doing this overnight.

  1. Vitamin E Oil:

Pigmentation can be due to dry skin. Using oil is effective for any type of dry skin. Underarm darkening can also be due to this pigmentation. You have the choice of using almond oil, coconut oil or any other type of oil.

The presence of Vitamin E in coconut oil can help manage the discoloration of the underarms. You need to massage your underarms for around 20 minutes every day with this and mark the difference.

  1. Turmeric:

Turmeric is used for various beauty treatments since times immemorial. The presence of cur cumin, an antioxidant, can lighten the skin tone in the underarm. This is known to be extremely effective.

Make a paste with turmeric and lemon juice and apply this to the area which is affected for around 20 minutes. After you rinse this you find a big difference.

  1. Lemon Juice:

Lemon acts as a bleaching agent as this is anti-septic and antibacterial. This can not only lighten the skin but can also exfoliate the dead cells.

Before a bath rub a lemon on the underarms for around 15 minutes. For faster results you can repeat this twice a day.

  1. Milk or Cream:

The skin tone of the underarm area can be lightened by rubbing milk or cream in that area. Using cream offers double benefits as this also tends to be a good moisturizer.

You need to stop smoking; wear clothes which are loose fitting, stop shaving and change your brand of persipirant or deodorant. If this problem persists with nothing working, you have the choice of consulting a dermatologist. A combination of home remedies with medication is what you might require if only the home remedies do not work for the dark underarms.
