Ayurveda for Dandruff

Dandruff is a disorder of the scalp and you have many people affected with this, immaterial of the age and gender. This causes dry, white flakes of the dead skin cells shedding from the scalp. Most of the times dandruff does not lead to any serious problem like baldness or hair loss but is definitely uncomfortable as this tends to itch a lot. There are chances of an individual suffering from eczema, psoriasis or seborrhea if the white flakes persist for a long period of time. Ayurveda offers some hoe remedies which are effective in controlling dandruff.

  1. Lime juice and Egg White:

Mix juice of 1lime with whites of 2 eggs in a bowl. This mixture needs to be applied to the hair for half an hour and then washed with neem soap. The deficiency of protein for the scalp is provided by the egg white and there is more than one chance of the dandruff lessening. The Vitamin C in lime works as a protection against stress caused by the free radicals. This Vitamin C is also important for boosting circulation and also collagen which is essential for the health of the scalp.

  1. Methi Seeds or Fenugreek:

The high content of nicotinic acid and protein in fenugreek seeds can control dandruff and also hair fall. This works ideal for hair thinning, baldness and dry hair. Three tablespoons of fenugreek seeds need to be soaked in water overnight. This needs to be blended into a paste in the blender. You can apply this paste after you have added 1 tbsp of lemon juice, to your hair. Wash it off after 30 minutes with a mild shampoo.

  1. Amla:

Amla is rich in Vitamin C and is known to cure dryness and also get rid of dandruff as this is not only anti-bacterial but also anti-inflammatory. Make a paste by mixing amla powder in water. Mix a paste of 10 to 12 tulsi leaves in this paste. Apply this on your hair and wash it off only after 30 minutes with a mild shampoo.

  1. Neem:

Neem is ideal for different types of hair treatment as this has antiviral and antifungal properties. You can use this as hair oil or even a hair mask. Add neem paste to a bowl of curds and apply this on your hair. You need to rinse this off only after 15 minutes. This combination of curds and need can work wonders for managing dandruff and also prevent any itching on your scalp.

  1. Shikakai, Amla, Areetha:

Shikakai, amla and areetha are rich in Vitamin C. Areetha is known to clean the scalp by removing the microbes which cause infections. Using reetha, shikakai and amla as a shampoo can benefit the scalp to a large extent. Soak few pods of amla with 6 to 7 pieces of shikakai and 5 to 6 pods of reetha in water overnight. Boil this mixture and blend it when this cools down. The liquid concoction after it has been strained can be used as a shampoo.

A little effort is required if you are interested in keeping your scalp healthy and free of dandruff.
