Benefits of Oatmeal for the Skin

As known, oatmeal is the best choice for breakfast. This is considered as the ‘power house of nutrients’ which also works well for the weight loss program. Not many are aware that the same oatmeal offer multiple benefits for the skin and is presently being used by many who are looking for skin care treatments.  Oats are grains from the Avena Satitva plant and can be used not only as human feed but also animal feed. This works well for the treatment of acne as oats can absorb the excessive oil in the skin. You can also use oats for dry skin as these contain a number of anti-oxidants and also have anti-inflammatory properties.

How to use Oatmeal for the Skin:

  1. Treating Dry Skin:

Major benefit of using oatmeal for the skin is that this helps in managing the dry skin as oats can replace the usual chemical moisturizer and also remove the dead skin cells. Skin exfoliation is ideal due to the multi anti-inflammatory properties of oats. Your skin is cooled down due to the mild pH present in oatmeal.

  • All you need to do is add some baking soda and oatmeal to your regular bath and soak in this water for around 20 minutes. Pat dry and not rub with the towel.
  1. Treating Acne:

The zinc present in oatmeal kills the bacteria which causes acne and also reduces inflammation. The excessive oil can be soaked up when you use oatmeal for your skin.

  • Boil half a cup of water along with half a cup of oatmeal. Stir and let this mixture cool. Apply this face mask and wash it off only after around 20 minutes or so. You have the choice of adding tomatoes to the paste for additional benefits. It is advisable to consult a dermatologist before you use this mask.
  1. Relieves Itching:

You tend to itch only when the pH level is high or when there is some sort of an inflammation under the skin. Oatmeal offers the required relief as this balances the level of pH and protects from external irritants due to the moisture provided.

  • Make a paste of blended oats and a little water. This needs to be applied on the specific area which is itching. You can wash it off with cold water after around 15 minutes. This paste can also be made using milk instead of water.
  1. Treating Blackheads:

Saponins, a chemical which is ideal for cleansing, is found in abundance in oatmeal. As known, clogged pores on your skin leads to blackheads. Using oatmeal on your skin can offer a clear and clean skin.

  • Mix 3tbsps of plain yogurt with 2tbsps of oatmeal. Add half a teaspoon of lemon juice to this mixture. This paste needs to be applied on the affected area and washed off after around 15 minutes. Use warm water for rinsing your face.
